PPRR Winter Series #2

And we're off!!!

The 2nd Pikes Peak Road Runners Winter Series Race was held at The El Pomar Sports Center.  We chose to compete in the 8 mile run. This run was a relatively flat trail.  There were about 700 runners in this race. It was a great turn out.  We arrived about 9:20 am.  We registered and then prepared to warm-up. The weather on this particular morning was a beautiful sunny day in the mid 40's. There was an element of the weather that was not so pleasant when your wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It was the wind which was only supposed to be about 12 mph but was probably around 20mph.  Needless to say at the start of the race the wind was fierce and cold since we were running directly into the wind.  We were quite frigid for the first 4 miles.
Pushing through the wind

At the turn around point we were happier than ever to be headed back with the wind behind us pushing us along. Wow were we getting faster.  The last 4 miles were the best yet because we were not freezing anymore and we were picking up speed.  At the last half of a mile we finished the race strong.  This was one of our better races.

After the race we partook in one of our traditions, the mango!! We went to La'au's Taco Shop.

It is a cute little hidden taco shop.  You really have to know what you're looking for or you just might miss it.  It's at the corner of Tejon and Cache la Poudre in a little back alley.  We both got the bowl with nicely spiced mahi-mahi.  Then you choose your style.  Of course we went with the Maui: mango salsa, pico de gallo, and shredded green papaya.  It was a delightful and delicious meal after an exhausting run.
Check out that mango!

Our taste buds can hardly wait

The beauty of the bowl is that you get to mix it all up and create your own taco.
We would say it was some of the best fish tacos we have ever had.  We also had the Chocolate Kahlua Cake. It was creamy and smooth, definitely would have more of the cake as well. This was a great eating experience to end this escapade!!
